SALINA, KS – Kate Cordes made sure a tight game was no longer so in Jamestown Jimmie Women’s Basketball’s season opener.
Cordes had 10 points in a second quarter run and scored 32 for the game as Jamestown opened the season with a 90-67 win over Bethel College Friday at Mabee Arena.
Cordes was 12-of-19 shooting, four-of-eight on three-pointers, and four-of-four on free throws while having five assists.
She scored eight points in a 14-0 run to begin the game before Bethel cut the lead to 20-17 by the end of the first quarter.
Then, as Jamestown began the second quarter with a 21-5 run, Cordes scored 10 more. Jamestown led 51-32 at halftime, then by as many as 26 in the third quarter.
Hannah Hagel, Sarah Lenz and Savannah Hedin each scored nine points for the Jimmies. Hagel also had five rebounds. Kate Busek had four assists.
Jamestown shot 51 percent from the field and made nine three-pointers. The Jimmies had a 38-34 rebound advantage and had 18 assists. They forced 23 Bethel turnovers.
Kendall Locke led the Threshers with 25 points.
Jamestown will play Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday evening in Salina.
