PINGREE- They are the tenth-ranked team in Class B and on Monday night, they looked the part.
Brynn Sorenson and Maddie Gefroh dominated early and Medina-Pingree-Buchanan ended the regular season with a 25-9, 25-21, 25-20 win over the Carrington Cardinals on Monday night at Pingree-Buchanan High School.
The first set was all Thunder (26-5) as they jumped out to an early lead with Gefroh collecting six first set kills, stunning the Cardinals (17-10). The second set was much more competitive, with Carrington briefly taking a lead early in the set before Sorensen got going with a seven-kill set to life M-P-B to a two set lead. In the third, Brynn Smith had three consecutive aces for Carrington, who led by as many as four, but a match-ending 10-2 run closed it out.
Both teams are the 2-seeds in their respective district tournaments, with the Thunder having a bye in the six-team District VI. Meanwhile, Carrington open the District V Tournament Thursday evening against Barnes County North. The entire District V Tournament can be heard on KDAK The Cardinal beginning Thursday at 3:45 PM.
