JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) is excited to announce its participation in the DAISY Award program, an internationally recognized initiative celebrating the compassionate care and clinical skills of nurses. Designed to acknowledge nurses as the “unsung heroes” in healthcare, the DAISY Award emphasizes exceptional nursing care for patients and families alike.

The award, which features a flower symbol, stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. It was founded in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away in 1999 due to complications from idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, a rare autoimmune disease. Moved by the extraordinary care shown by the nursing staff during Barnes’ hospitalization, his family established the DAISY Foundation. Since its inception, the program has expanded globally, reaching thousands of healthcare facilities in over 30 countries.

Patients and their families at JRMC are encouraged to recognize nurses who have made a meaningful impact on their care. Nominations are accepted year-round, with honorees selected up to three times annually based on their compassion, skill, and commitment to patient-centered care. Each DAISY honoree receives a personalized certificate, a DAISY Award pin, and a hand-carved “A Healer’s Touch” sculpture created by an artist in Zimbabwe. Honorees will also be celebrated at a public ceremony held at JRMC.

“At JRMC, we are honored to partner with the DAISY Foundation to celebrate the remarkable dedication of our nurses who consistently demonstrate excellence in patient care,” said Trisha Jungels, JRMC Chief Nursing Officer. “Our nurses are not only highly skilled healthcare professionals, but they also bring extraordinary compassion and care, playing an essential role in enhancing both the emotional and physical well-being of our patients.”
