JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public Works Committee met on Thursday and moved forward with several critical infrastructure measures, including equipment upgrades, a new construction district, and a change order for storm sewer replacement.

Council Member Kamlitz initiated a motion to approve a $73,903.45 purchase of GPS equipment for a landfill dozer. This equipment will be procured through the Minnesota State Cooperative Purchasing Venture, with funding from the Solid Waste Fund. The motion, seconded by Council Member Schloegel, passed unanimously.

The committee also recommended the City Council create a new district, identified as District 25-41, for the 2025 Seal Coat, Patching, Construction, and Reconstruction projects. The motion included steps to direct the preparation of a preliminary engineering report, laying the groundwork for the extensive street maintenance project. Public Works Director Michel presented details, and the committee approved the recommendation with a unanimous vote.

Another motion, moved by Kamlitz and seconded by Heinrich, approved Change Order No. 3 for an emergency storm sewer replacement project managed by CC Steel, LLC. This change order accounts for a $2,800 net increase to accommodate 96-inch storm sewer replacement modifications.

Updates on ongoing projects followed, where Public Works Director Michel informed the committee of upcoming notifications to Jamestown households as part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead and Copper Rule Revision. Over 4,000 letters will be sent annually, advising residents if their service lines contain lead or galvanized material requiring replacement.
