Ellendale, ND (NewsDakota.com) – It’s been a fight all year long in District 5. The top 4 teams are at 4-2 and 5-1 respectively and it took until Tuesday night to see who would be the #1 team going into the Tournament. Now that EKM has indeed clinched the top spot we get a look at the bracket ahead of next weeks Tournament.

The Tournament this year is being hosted by Ellendale and begins on Halloween Night at 4:00 pm with the 4th seeded Oakes Tornadoes taking on 5th seeded Griggs-Midkota Titans. These two teams fought a long 5 setter earlier this year and another long drawn out fight is expected in the 1st round of the playoffs. The winner of this game will get top seeded EKM, who gets an opening round bye, on November 1st for the 2nd game of that night. The loser however advances to a Region Qualifier matchup on Monday November 4th at 4:00 pm.

The 2nd game on night 1 is between the 2nd seed Carrington Cardinals and the 7th seed Barnes County North Bison. Carrington swept the Bison in their previous meeting. The winner advances to the semifinal night game on November 1st while the loser will play in a loser out game for the first game on November 1st.

The final game of the 1st night is between the 3rd seed LaMoure-LM Loboes and the #6 seed Ellendale Cardinals. Last time these 2 teams met was back in September when the Loboes swept the Cardinals 3-0. The winner of this game takes on the winner of game 2 while the loser plays in the loser out game on Friday.

The Region Qualifiers and Championship game will be on Monday November 4th with game 1 beginning at 4:00 pm.

EKM won the District Tournament last year against LaMoure-LM in a 5 setter for the ages. The teams other teams to make it to the Region 3 Tournament last year was Oakes and Carrington.
