Medina, ND (Newsdakota.com) – The Oakes Tornados put up stiff resistance to the #10 team in the state but it would not be enough as the Medina/Pingree/Buchanan Thunder got the 3-1 victory. (26-28, 25-10, 25-19, 25-19).

Set 1 was a back and forth affair with 10 ties in the set and 6 lead changes. It was close at first with ties back and forth till 4-4 when MPB pulled away to 8-5. The lead would never be more than 3 for the entire set as Oakes would battle back to tie it at 15-15 with lead changing back and forth till 18-17 when the Thunder reclaimed the lead. MPB would lead late in the set at 23-20 before Oakes scored 3 straight to tie it. There would be 4 ties after that with 3 lead changes before the Tornados took the lead at 27-26 and won it 28-26.

In set 2 the Thunder ran the show. They’d jump out to 4-0 and never look back. The closest Oakes would get to tying it would be4-3 and later 8-6. After that the Thunder would go on a 7 point run to take a 15-6 lead. They’d eventually win the set 25-10.

In set 3 the match was back and forth with 6 ties and 3 lead changes till 9-9 when MPB would take and hold the lead building it to 17-11. Oakes wouldn’t be able to fight back from that and the set would eventually end with the Thunder winning 25-19.

Set 4 was once again all Thunder after trading points early on till 3-3 the Thunder would then run to 11-3. The lead would slowly whittle down but would prove insurmountable as the closest it’d get would be 21-17 and 23-19. Oakes would fall 25-19 giving the Thunder the win.
