ABERDEEN, S.D. (NSU) – Shelby Boettner, DNP, RN, an assistant professor at Northern State University, has been named District IV Nurse of the Year by the South Dakota Nurses Association (SDNA). Boettner received this award during the SDNA’s annual convention in Yankton, which took place on October 6-7, 2024.

The District IV Nurse of the Year Award celebrates nurses who have made significant contributions to both their profession and their communities. District IV includes several counties across northeastern South Dakota, such as Brown, Marshall, Day, Spink, Faulk, and others.

“I’m incredibly excited and humbled to receive this recognition,” Boettner said. “I hope it shows that nurses at any stage in their career can make an impact, and I’m inspired to continue advocating for greater community involvement and professional development in our field.”

Boettner is playing a key role in developing Northern’s new nursing program, which is set to begin in Fall 2025. Her dedication to advancing healthcare education and her commitment to fostering future nurses are already having a positive impact at Northern and in the local community.
