North Dakota’s agricultural operations have been significantly impacted by recent wildfires, prompting the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to offer financial and technical assistance. Farmers and livestock producers affected by these natural disasters can seek help to recover losses related to crops, livestock, land, and infrastructure.

The USDA provides several programs, such as the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) and the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program (ELAP). These programs compensate for livestock deaths, feed and grazing losses, and transportation costs. Producers need to contact their local Farm Service Agency (FSA) office for eligibility requirements and submit their loss documentation by March 3, 2025.

USDA also offers loans and grants for affected producers. The Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) and the Emergency Forest Restoration Program (EFRP) provide financial assistance for the restoration of farmlands and forestlands damaged by wildfires. In addition, low-interest emergency loans are available for those in disaster-designated areas.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) offers conservation assistance through programs like the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP). These programs help producers plan and implement land recovery practices.

The USDA encourages affected farmers and ranchers to report losses quickly and seek help from their local FSA and NRCS offices for assistance with wildfire recovery.
