JAMESTOWN – Carter Johnson scored a hat trick and nine different players scored at least two points Saturday as fifth-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 Men’s Hockey blasted Illinois 10-2 at Wilson Arena.

Brad Fortin and Jacob Thomas scored 1:27 apart in the opening period and Jamestown (11-0) had a 2-0 lead only 8:38 into the game.

Carson Mitchell scored a powerplay goal for Illinois (5-7) at 10:08, but Marlo Decapite gave the Jimmies a 3-1 advantage at 13:04.

Another Illini powerplay goal by Anthony Varrassi brought the visitors to within 3-2 with 34 seconds left in the first period.

Jamestown dominated after that.

The Jimmies’ four second period goals all came in just over six minutes.  Johnson scored on the powerplay at 10:36, followed by Matthew Poole at 11:53, another Johnson powerplay tally at 14:20, and his hat trick goal at 16:54.

Alex Erichuk, Zane McDonald and Kaelan Shelton all scored in the third period for Jamestown, who outshot Illinois 41-16.

Brandon Weare made 14 saves.

The Jimmies will host Concordia Moorhead in an exhibition Friday evening at 7:00 PM at Wilson Arena.
