GRAND FORKS – Jamestown’s number one boys tennis doubles team of Luke LeFevre and Braxton Burkett had a chance for a place finish at the state event, but were prevented from it by an opponent rally.

LeFevre and Burkett lost the fifth place match Saturday to Arnav Panwalkar and Thomas Webb of Fargo North 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-7 at the NDHSAA Boys Tennis Championships.

Play for LeFevre and Burkett opened Friday with a first-round loss to Drew Burris and Nichols Webb of Fargo North 1-6, 6-0, 10-7.  The Jamestown team then had to win twice more on Friday to stay in the event and did, defeating Lucas DeRosier and Donaven Birdine of Mandan 6-1, 6-1 and Charlie Holzer and Carter Anderson of Bismarck Century, 6-4, 6-0.

On Saturday, LeFevre and Burkett topped Wahpeton’s Alex Comings and Garnett Anderson 6-4, 6-2 to advance to the fifth place match.
