Glenfield, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes came into Midkota Highschool riding an 11 set win streak, a 5 match win streak and a tie for the #1 spot in District 5 with LaMoure-LM. They walked out with a 6th straight win and sole possession of the #1 position after winning a 5 setter against the Griggs-Midkota Titans. (16-25, 25-14, 25-21, 22-25, 15-11)

The match started with back and forth scoring with the Titans having a slight advantage before a 6th tie at 12-12 before the Titans took and maintained the lead for the rest of the set going on a 13-4 run to end set one with a 25-16 victory ending Oakes set win streak at 11.

The Tornados came out with aggression in set 2 taking a 14-9 lead that’d extend to 22-11. Oakes would get set point at 24-12 but they would struggle to finish off the set as Griggs-Midkota would take 2 more points before Oakes inevitably won the set 25-14.

Oakes would keep up the pressure with a dominant set 3 as they would take a lead early after 4-4. The lead wouldn’t get more then 1 or 2 points before 13-12 when Oakes would take over and go on a 7 point run to make it 20-12 before trading points back and forth till 24-15. The Tornados would again struggle to get the win as the Titans would score 6 straight points before Oakes would again win 25-21.

The 4th set was a struggle back and forth with 6 lead changes and 9 ties through the set. Oakes would have the lead for the most of the set and would have a 21-18 lead late in the set before the Titans battled back to tie it at 22-22 and take the lead immediately following that to win the set 25-22 and force a set 5.

Set 5 was back and for most of the way with Oakes leading most of the way but there would be 3 ties as late as 8-8. Oakes would then go on a 7-3 run to end the set on a Ann Muggli block to win it 15-11.

Molly Sitzler was named the Bank North Player of the Game.

Due to EKM sweeping LaMoure-LM, Oakes now holds the top spot in District 5 with a 4-1 record with a chance to clinch the #1 seed next Tuesday in Oakes against the Carrington Cardinals. Before that however the Tornados will take on the Richland Colts in Oakes on Thursday October 10th.
