University of Jamestown Campaign Reaches $70 Million, Expands Academic Programs

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown (UJ) has reached two major milestones in the second year of its ‘Together We Rise’ campaign. The initiative has raised $70 million toward an $80 million fundraising goal and reorganized its academic affairs to expand programs, a media release states.

UJ President Dr. Polly Peterson hailed the campaign’s progress as a reflection of the University’s commitment to its strategic plan and the dedication of alumni and supporters. “Together, as Jimmies, we have built a history of success. And now, together, we will elevate our institution to new heights,” Peterson said.

As part of the expansion, UJ has renovated its Jamestown and Fargo campuses and restructured academic departments to promote interdisciplinary growth. Programs once separated by discipline have been consolidated into ten schools and departments, including the new School of Nursing, which now houses the University’s nursing program.

The academic reorganization has also led to leadership changes. Dr. Christopher Redfearn, previously Assistant Provost, now serves as Vice President for Academic Affairs, overseeing all undergraduate and graduate programs. Dr. Paul Olson has transitioned from Provost to Executive Vice President, focusing on strategic initiatives.

“We are committed to creating an academic structure that not only supports our students’ educational journeys but also fosters a vibrant and inclusive community,” Redfearn said. Olson added that UJ’s restructuring presents growth opportunities, positioning the University as a resource for students and employers.

Additionally, UJ has appointed three part-time administrative deans to oversee academic and faculty affairs. Dr. Sara Voorhees will serve as Graduate Academic Dean, Dr. Kristin Lefebvre as Graduate Faculty Dean, and Dr. Jakob Barnard as Undergraduate Academic Dean.

President Peterson emphasized that the new leadership model will empower faculty and staff to lead with integrity while enhancing the University’s commitment to lifelong learning and academic excellence.
