DICKINSON – Jamestown needed a night playing with confidence after three straight losses, and the Blue Jays certainly had it on the road.

Jackson Jarrett had 121 yards receiving and two touchdowns on offense and one of six sacks on defense Friday as Jamestown spoiled homecoming for Dickinson with a 31-12 win at the Biesiot Activities Center.

Jamestown (3-3, 1-1 AA West) broke a three-game losing streak, the program’s longest such streak since 2020.

An interception by quarterback Ryan Kallenbach ended Jamestown’s first possession.  Dickinson (3-3, 1-1) had the ball just over seven minutes on their first possession, but failed on fourth down.

A 74-yard drive then ended with the Blue Jays scoring the game’s first points on a one-yard keeper by Kallenbach, his second rushing touchdown of the season.  Kallenbach had earlier thrown a 45-yard pass to Jarrett to put the Blue Jays at the Dickinson 10.  Jamestown was on top 7-0 with 10:37 left in the first half.

Dickinson went three-and-out before Jamestown hit with a big touchdown play.  Kallenbach threw a 73-yard pass to Jarrett down the right sideline and the Jays’ lead with 13-0 with 8:21 remaining in the second quarter.

After another Dickinson punt, Jamestown drove 70 yards in just over three and a half minutes, culminating with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Kallenbach to Nate Walz.  Jamestown’s lead was 19-0 with 1:07 to go in the half.

Dickinson moved quickly, starting with a 39-yard kickoff return by Braden Meschke.  Dickinson then drove to the Jamestown 26, but a Blue Jay unsportsmanlike conduct penalty advanced DHS 15 yards.  Nathan Stevenson found Dylan Glasser with an 11-yard touchdown pass on the first half’s final play and Jamestown had a 19-6 halftime lead.

A forced fumble and recovery by Jamestown’s Vaughn Romsdal ended Dickinson’s first second half possession.  Then, the Blue Jays had a scare.  Dickinson’s Trevor Toliver sacked Kallenbach, who then, while running off the field, appeared to be favoring his right shoulder.  Brady Nenow replaced Kallenbach, who did not return to the game.

With the help of a 45-yard pass from Stevenson to Meschke, Dickinson scored on their next time with the ball on a two-yard run by Meschke.  With 3:54 left in the third quarter, Jamestown’s lead was cut to 19-12.

Nenow, playing for the first time in a varsity game, excelled on the ensuing Jamestown drive.  He passed to Walz and Kelan Harstad for first downs before finding Jarrett on a 37-yard score.  Jamestown led led 26-12 with 2:51 left in the third quarter.

Dickinson was backed up to their own 18 yard line on fourth down and a Kolby Fast Horse punt attempt was blocked by Jamestown’s Brannen Kahler.  The ball flew out of the back of the end zone for a safety and a 28-12 Jamestown advantage.

Nenow found Caleb Schiele for a 43-yard pass for Jamestown on the next drive, which ended on a Brady Harty 33-yard field goal with 11:10 left for the game’s final points.

For the Jamestown defense, Harstad had an interception.  Joining Jarrett with sacks were Romsdal, Max Rittenbach, Cephy Sayler, Jett Wharton and Gradin Thorlakson.  Thorlakson also boomed a 76-yard punt.

Kallenbach isn’t believed to be seriously hurt.  When Jamestown Athletic Trainer Mason Ankenbauer was asked following the game about the senior quarterback, Ankenbauer said, “He’s fine.”

Kallenbach passed for 227 yards and two touchdowns.  Nenow passed for 117 and one score.

Jamestown will again be on the road on Friday, facing St. Mary’s in Bismarck.  Coverage will begin at 6:30 on Friday on The Voice of the Blue Jays, Jamestown 107.1.
