For the week ending September 29, 2024, there were 6.6 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture was rated 6% very short, 27% short, 60% adequate, and 7% surplus, while subsoil moisture was rated 7% very short, 23% short, 62% adequate, and 8% surplus.

Field Crops Report:

The soybean condition was rated 2% very poor, 6% poor, 25% fair, 60% good, and 7% excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves stood at 87%, near last year’s 90%, and 23% of the soybeans were harvested.

Spring wheat was 97% harvested, close to last year’s 99%. Durum wheat harvest reached 96%, ahead of both last year and the five-year average.

Winter wheat planting progressed to 69%, ahead of last year’s 57%, and 42% had emerged, surpassing both last year and the five-year average.

Corn condition rated 3% very poor, 8% poor, 26% fair, 57% good, and 6% excellent. Corn dough reached 95%, with only 1% harvested, behind last year’s 7%.

Other crops like canola were 79% harvested, sugarbeets were at 15%, and sunflower conditions remained strong with 64% rated as good. Oats were 95% harvested, flaxseed 90%, and potatoes were 61% harvested.

Pasture and Range Report:

Pasture and range conditions were rated 7% very poor, 14% poor, 30% fair, 46% good, and 3% excellent. Stock water supplies were mostly adequate, with 68% rated as sufficient.
