JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The State Historical Society of North Dakota Foundation has announced a landmark $5.86 million donation, the largest in its history, designated for the preservation of the Stutsman County Courthouse State Historic Site. The donation was made from the estate of George Spangler, a longtime Jamestown farmer, cattle rancher, and antique dealer.
The funds will be used to maintain and support the historic courthouse, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
“We are overwhelmed,” said Barb Lang, a member of the 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse Committee. “It’s incredible to think that the courthouse will be preserved beyond our lifetimes, and likely even for our grandchildren’s lifetimes.”
A news conference is scheduled for October 1 at 1 p.m. at the Stutsman County Courthouse to discuss the donation and its impact.
The Stutsman County Courthouse, located at 504 Third Avenue SE, is managed by the State Historical Society and stands as a symbol of the region’s rich heritage.
