JAMESTOWN – A showdown? No, the Jimmies just showed off.
In a matchup of the NSAA’s two nationally-ranked teams, third-ranked Jamestown swept past eighth-ranked Bellevue Friday 25-22, 25-14, 25-20 in the Jimmies’ home opener at Harold Newman Arena.
After Bellevue led 6-2 to open the first set, Jamestown (11-0, 3-0 NSAA) rallied to tie twice. Bellevue (14-3, 1-1) later led 20-16 before the Jimmies scored six in a row, including kills by Aleah Zieske, Charlotte Lempka and Karlie Anderson and an ace by Zieske. Another Anderson kill ended the set.
The Jimmies ran past the Bruins in the second set while hitting .469 with 17 kills. Up 15-13, Jamestown then scored the next seven points on kills, one by Zieske, three by Lempka, one by Anderson and two by Gracie Adamson.
A 16-6 run in the third set by the Jimmies turned a 3-2 deficit into an 18-9 lead. Jamestown hitting was vicious again at .389 with 17 more kills.
Zieske had a match-high 18 kills for Jamestown, hit .359 and had 12 digs. Lempka smashed 10 kills in 14 attempts.
Tenley Buddenhagen (23) and Lily Bertsch (17) combined for 40 assists. Holen had 11 digs. Lempka and Anderson notched three block assists each. Zieska and Grace Hegerle each served two aces.
On Saturday, Jamestown will host Dakota State at Harold Newman Arena at 3:00 PM.
