The North Dakota Stockmen’s Association (NDSA) conducted its 95th Annual Convention and Trade Show with the theme “Building for the Future” on September 20 in Bismarck, North Dakota. Randy Schmitt, a 21-year member of the organization, was chosen president of the organization.

During the last business meeting, Schmitt was chosen as the new leader of the 3,000-member NDSA, an organization devoted to advancing and safeguarding the state’s cattle industry.

Schmitt and his family operate a commercial cow-calf operation using Simmental and Red Angus genetics in Rugby, N.D. They raise their own feed, including alfalfa, cover crops, and corn, and sell their calves off the farm or as replacement females. Schmitt has served on several NDSA committees, including the Resolutions, Ag Policy, Building, and Budget Committees, and previously held positions as District 6 director and vice president.

Tim Erbele, a 33-year member from Streeter, N.D., was elected vice president. Erbele operates a Salers-Angus-cross cow-calf operation, a feedlot, and a Purina feed dealership. Before his election, he served on multiple NDSA committees and as chairman of the Animal Health Committee.

Other newly elected members include Ryan Ressler of Cooperstown, N.D., representing District 1, Jared Higgins of Woodworth, N.D., for District 2, Randy Weigel of Kintyre, N.D., for District 3, Scott Katus of Watauga, S.D., for District 4, Cody Reis of Fairfield, N.D., for District 5, and Ian Hall of Berthold, N.D., for District 6. These leaders bring extensive experience in cattle operations, farming, and community involvement.

NDSA officers serve up to two one-year terms, while directors serve up to two four-year terms. Members interested in running for leadership positions are encouraged to contact their district’s Nominating Committee.
