BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – North Dakota State School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler announced Wednesday that applications have reopened for a vacancy on the state Board of Public School Education, offering a unique opportunity for school board members in Stutsman County to apply.

Applicants must be eligible voters, currently serve on a school board, and reside in one of eight counties, including Stutsman. The selected candidate will complete the term of former board member Burdell Johnson, which runs until June 30, 2026.

The initial application period, announced in August, failed to attract a candidate meeting all the requirements, prompting the reopening. The deadline to apply is Friday, Oct. 11, 2024, at 5 p.m. Central time.

The board plays a key role in overseeing K-12 and career and technical education programs, as well as approving decisions on school district reorganizations and property transfers. North Dakotans in Stutsman County and surrounding areas are encouraged to apply through the governor’s website.
