JAMESTOWN – Avery Liestman pitched seven effective innings and Jamestown held on to an early lead Wednesday as University of Jamestown Baseball stopped Mayville State 6-3 at Jack Brown Stadium.
Liestman (2-0) struck out six, allowing only four hits and a run while throwing 76 of his 102 pitches for strikes.
A throwing error by Mayville State pitcher Garret Lundmark scored the first run in the first inning for the Jimmies (3-1). Jamestown scored twice more in the second inning on a wild pitch and a two-out single by Julian Romero.
The other three UJ runs came in the home eighth. Two were on an error and Romero drove in the other with a sacrifice fly.
Mayville scored twice in the top of the ninth before Peyton Hochhalter retired the final hitter for his first save.
Chase Burke and Alex Alva had two hits each.
Jamestown will host Dickinson State in a doubleheader Friday at 1:00 PM at Jack Brown Stadium.
