Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornados got their first victory of the season on Friday September 20th on their Homecoming Game as they beat the Thompson Tommies 34-22.

The game started really well for Thompson as, within 2 plays they were on the Oakes 1 yard line and 2 plays later had the first touchdown of the game just 100 seconds into the contest. This came from a 50+ yard run from Josh Juve who would end up running the final yard for the touchdown. Oakes would respond later in the quarter with a Chris Titus 1 yard touchdown run of their own after blocking and recovering a punt at the 1 yard line to make it 7-6.

Thompson would follow that up with another long Juve run that brought them deep into the red zone again. They would score again from 1 yard out on a Juve run to start the 2nd quarter to give them a 14-7 lead after converting a 2 point conversion. The punters would get action throughout the rest of the quarter until just under 3 minutes to go in the half. Beau Thorpe would step up in the pocket and gun a pass to Reese Nitshke who would found himself wide open in the middle of the field and scamper into the end zone from 56 yards out. This would tie the game going into the half at 14-14.

Oakes passing game would come alive in the 2nd half as Oakes would go through the air for all three touchdowns in the half with Thorpe connecting with Titus twice in the 3rd quarter. Once from 8 yards out and the other from 5 yards out. The half also say Titus intercept Tommie quarterback Gavin Krogstad. The defense would get to Krogstad several times in the quarter as well preventing any form of Thompson offense. The Tornadoes would lead 27-14 at the end of the quarter.

They’d score again with Thorpe finding Dylan Harris from 5 yards out to put Thompson away with a 34-14 lead. The Tornadoes would slow the Tommie offense to a near stop and prevent them from scoring till late with another Jove run into the end zone this time from 5 yards out which would end up being the final score 34-22.

The Bank North Player of the Game was Beau Thorpe.
