GRAND FORKS – It didn’t completely make up for how the last three seasons ended, but for one night, Red River Football did what it wanted against Jamestown.

Red River controlled the game virtually from start to finish Friday in a 34-9 pasting of Jamestown at Cushman Field.

For Red River (4-0), whose last three seasons have ended with playoff losses to the Blue Jays, their excellent play began immediately when Thomas Kraft returned the opening kickoff 30 yards to midfield.  On the Roughriders’ first play from scrimmage, quarterback Pearce Parks hit Carter Flom with a 32-yard gain.  Three plays later, Kraft scored on a three-yard rush and Red River led 7-0 only 1:31 into the game.

The first two plays for Jamestown (2-2) showed promise.   A Kelen Harstad 17-yard run was followed by a 25-yard pass from Ryan Kallenbach to Max Rittenbach.  There was one more first down on the drive for the Blue Jays, but they settled for a 32-yard field goal by Brady Harty to cut Red River’s lead to 7-3.

Kraft ended a 78-yard drive for Red River with an eight-yard touchdown and with 3:12 left in the opening quarter, the Roughriders led 13-3.

Jamestown went three-and-out before a 60-yard scoring drive by Red River, ending with a one-yard keeper touchdown by Parks and Red River extended the lead to 21-3 just over two minutes into the second quarter.

The Blue Jays again were held to three-and-out before Red River cemented the game with an 83-yard drive that lasted seven minutes and 40 seconds.  Parks was seven-for-eight passing on this march, including a five-yard touchdown pass to Kraft with 37 seconds remaining in the half.  Red River led 27-3 at halftime.

Parks found Cam Klefstad for a 16-yard scoring pass midway through the third quarter for the final Red River touchdown.

Kallenbach scored the rest of the Blue Jay points on a 16-yard touchdown run on the last play of the game.

Parks was 16-of-21 passing for 172 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 50 yards and a score.  Kraft rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns for Red River.

Harstad rushed for 99 yards on 20 carries for Jamestown.

Rival Valley City comes to Jamestown Friday for the Blue Jays’ homecoming in the battle for the Iron Helmet Trophy at Rollie Greeno Field at Charlotte and Gordon Hansen Stadium.  Coverage will begin Friday at 6:30 PM on The Voice of the Blue Jays, Jamestown 107.1.
