VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Public School District is a member of the school construction coalition, joining several other school districts across the state. Some of those districts in the coalition include Central Cass, Devils Lake, Hankinson, Hillsboro, LaMoure, Oakes, and Valley City.
Superintendent Josh Johnson said the coalition is working to address the issue of funding repairs for aging school facilities. He said the coalition believes the state should be responsible for facility upgrades for all districts across the state.
He said the coalition also believes, school districts should be able to approve 10 mills for their building fund mill levy without a vote, as other state government agencies do across the state.
Johnson said all school districts deserve updated facilities for teaching their students. The full presentation from Josh Johnson concerning the latest school construction coalition recommendations is below this sentence.
Meanwhile, Kyle Kvamme with ICON Architects gave an update to the school board at their regular meeting on September 18th.
In the report, Kvamme said it would not be fiscally responsible to remodel the existing High School building due to it’s aging condition. He proposed building a new 6-12 grade facility.
He added that it would be more cost effective to build an 40-thousand square foot addition to Jefferson elementary school and make the building a K-5 facility for students.
A portion of Kyle Kvamme’s presentation is below this sentence.
The presentation was the latest recommendation to the school board from ICON Architects. Kvamme said the goal is to help the school district choose the most cost effective option as they pursue the best direction for the school district.
