TRAILL COUNTY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – An 18-year-old Buxton man was severely injured in a crash involving a train early Thursday morning, according to North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) officials.
The accident occurred shortly before 8 am on Thursday, about one mile north of Buxton.
The 2008 GMC Envoy, driven by the unidentified 18-year-old male, was traveling eastbound when it collided with the second engine of a southbound train at the crossing. The impact caused the vehicle to be dragged approximately 50 feet south before coming to a stop.
Emergency responders, including Buxton Fire, Buxton Ambulance Service, Traill County Sheriff’s Office, and NDHP, were dispatched to the scene. The driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was airlifted by life flight to Fargo for treatment. He is reported to have sustained severe injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the NDHP.
