BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) -Jamestown Regional Airport reported 928 passenger boardings in August, up from 882 a year ago, contributing to a record-breaking month for North Dakota’s eight commercial service airports. The North Dakota Aeronautics Commission (NDAC) announced that 108,035 passengers boarded flights statewide, marking the busiest August on record and surpassing the previous high of 103,765 set in 2014. The total represents a 13% year-over-year increase, with 12,619 more passengers compared to August 2023.
“This is the fourth consecutive month that North Dakota has seen record-breaking passenger numbers,” said NDAC Director Kyle Wanner in a media release. “At this pace, 2024 could become the busiest year for air travel in the state’s history.”
Fargo Hector International Airport played a significant role in the surge, setting a new August and all-time monthly record with 48,514 boardings, up from 43,871 in August 2023. Devils Lake Airport also saw impressive growth, achieving a new monthly record of 881 passengers, surpassing last year’s total of 681.
Williston Basin International Airport is gearing up for the return of Sun Country Airlines’ direct flights to Las Vegas, running from September 5 through December 17. In addition, Fargo Hector International Airport expanded its offerings in early August when United Airlines introduced mainline service to Denver, enhancing connectivity for travelers in the region.
