BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Law enforcement agencies across North Dakota issued 6,781 citations during the “Speeding Slows You Down” enforcement campaign, held from July 1 to August 15, 2024. The campaign aimed to emphasize the dangers of speeding and the importance of obeying speed limits.
Of the total citations, 6,015 were for speeding. In addition, officers issued 260 other traffic-related citations for violations such as disobeying traffic signals and equipment failures. The campaign also led to 100 citations for suspended or revoked licenses, 142 seat belt violations, 87 citations for uninsured motorists, nine distracted driving offenses, nine drug arrests, and 11 driving under the influence (DUI) charges.
Data from 2023 reveals that speed and aggressive driving contributed to 33% of fatal crashes in the state. The high-visibility enforcement effort is part of North Dakota’s broader Vision Zero initiative, which seeks to eliminate motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries on the state’s roads.
