oakes-5

The Northern Cass Jaguars outscored the Oakes Tornadoes 18-0 in the second half to take their third win of the season, as Oakes falls to 0-3 on the year.

The game started with both defenses forcing three-and-outs as both teams’ offenses tried to find their footing. The Jaguars would push the ball deep into Oakes territory before they stalled out and turned the ball over on downs.

The game remained scoreless until Oakes took advantage of great field position late in the second quarter and took control at midfield. The Tornadoes would grind their way down the field with a steady diet of power runs, which was eventually capped off by a short plunge from Carter Ptacek to give Oakes a 6-0 lead.

After the halftime break, however, it was all Jaguars as they ripped off 18 unanswered points, the first of which came from a 26-yard connection between Hudson Rietschel and Matthew Metzger to tie the game at six all. The go-ahead score was a 74-yard screen pass from Rietschel to Matthew Hoppe, who staked the Jaguars to a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

A long taxing drive by Northern Cass late in the fourth would seal the deal as Rietschel escaped the pocket to scramble in for a four-yard touchdown run, making it 18-6. Oakes would take the ball deep into Northern Cass territory before turning it over on down with just over two minutes to play, as the Jaguars would run out the clock after the stop.
