After coming close a few times this year, the Valley City Boy’s Tennis Team was finally able to get their first win of the season, outlasting the West Fargo Packers 5-4.

From the very beginning their was not much separating these two sides. The doubles team of Miles Taylor and Quin Kruger had to regroup after dropping a second set tiebreaker in which they had a match point. They fell down 5-7 in the super tiebreaker, but reeled off five points in a row to win the match.

Noah Tulp put on an impressive performance in his super tiebreaker, shutting out Alex Wetterlin 10-0, besting his already stellar performance against Shanley where he won 10-1. Kellen Westman was able to keep the match alive tying it at 4-4, despite dislocating his pinky the day before the match.

Quin Kruger would help wrap up the victory for Valley City, as he was able to rally to win seven of the last nine sets in the first after falling into an early 3-0 hole. Kruger would then control the action in the second set taking an comfortable 6-2 victory and netting Valley City their first win in EDC play since 2022.

Head Coach Matt Neilson talked about what it was like to finally get over the hump: “This match was a long time coming. We had our shots against Shanley, South, and Davies this year, but wasn’t meant to be. This was a sweet win for our team and the boys.”
