CARRINGTON- Tate Wolsky’s two-point conversion rush in overtime came up inches short and the Harvey/Wells County Hornets beat the Carrington Cardinals 28-27 in OT on Friday night at Cardinal Stadium.
The Hornets struck first as QB Tallen Thorsen hit TE Tyler Swang for an 84 yard touchdown on their first play for a 7-0 lead. The Cardinals would answer as Corbin Clifton twice scored on four yard runs for a 12-7 lead. But Christian Mertz broke off a 30 yard run for a 13-12 Harvey/Wells County lead.
Again, Carrington responded as McKade Zink scored on 4th and 7 from the 10 yard line for an 18-13 lead and after the Hornets took the lead in the fourth, the Cards drove down the field and Peyton Harrington drilled his first career field goal attempt from 29 yards to tie it at 21. That was the score at the end of regulation.
In overtime, Kayl Sieg scored from three yards for a 28-21 Hornets (1-3, 1-1) lead. Josh Bickett (11/21, 101 yards, TD, INT; 12 rushes for 108 yards) found Clifton in the end zone for a touchdown that cut the lead to 28-27, but the two point play was stopped just short for the Cardinals (3-1, 1-1).
Carrington return to play Friday night for homecoming against Park River Area. Coverage on KDAK The Cardinal begins at 6:30 PM.
