JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A 22-year-old Jamestown man was arrested Wednesday morning after a shooting incident in southeast Jamestown.

At approximately 1:03 a.m. on September 11, an off-duty Jamestown police officer reported hearing gunshots in the area. Additional reports followed, and officers responded to the 1400 block of 6th Avenue SE, where they found a parked and unoccupied late-model Buick SUV riddled with bullet holes. No other vehicles were damaged, and nearby homes, occupied at the time, were not struck by gunfire. No injuries were reported.

A search of the area and evidence collection led police to identify a suspect and suspect vehicle. Jamestown police, with assistance from the Valley City Police Department and Barnes County Sheriff’s Office, located and detained the suspect just before 9 a.m.

The suspect, identified as Mikah Alan Striefel, was arrested on suspicion of felony reckless endangerment, felony criminal mischief, and unlawful discharge of a firearm within city limits. Striefel, who has connections to the Valley City area, was transported to the Stutsman County Correctional Center, where he awaits formal charges.

Police believe this was not a random act of violence, but a targeted incident, as the victim is known to the suspect. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Jamestown Police Department at 701-252-1000.
