Milnor, ND (NewsDakota.com) – Last year the Oakes Tornados and Sargent County Bulldogs went to 5 sets as Oakes won via reverse sweep. This year would also go 5 sets but this time it took a different route as both teams would alternate set wins till set 5 with Oakes winning in the end (18-25, 25-14, 14-25, 25-22, 15-13).

The match started with a lot of Oakes errors that allowed the Bulldogs to take a lead early one of which they would not give up after the 2-2 tie early on. They’d build up the lead all the way to 21-13 before winning the set 25-18.

The Tornadoes and Bulldogs would trade points all throughout the first half of set 2 with 9 ties in the set and 4 lead changes all the way up to 12-12. Oakes would then go a 13-2 run to end the set winning it 25-14.

Set 3 looked nearly identical to set 2 with neither team able to pull away till 13-13 with 11 ties and 3 lead changes. The Bulldogs would take and hold the lead after 13-13 and go on a 12-1 run to win the set with an identical 25-14 score.

Set 4 also saw 9 ties and 5 lead changes as both teams were battling hard. The last tie would once again be 13-13 when the Tornados would once again begin to pull away and get set point at 24-21. They’d take the set 25-22 to force set 5.

Set 5 saw Sargent County get the first point however that’d be their only lead of the set as Oakes would take and hold the lead after that. They’d get match point at 14-10. The Bulldogs would not go quietly into the good night as they’d battle back to within 1 before Oakes sealed the win 15-13.
