JAMESTOWN – They had been outgained and largely outplayed.  But when the Jamestown Blue Jays needed a big play most, they delivered.

Ryan Kallenbach hit Jackson Jarrett with a 30-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with 37 seconds to play Friday to give Jamestown a 14-12 win over Horace at Rollie Greeno Field at Charlotte and Gordon Hansen Stadium.

Jarrett ran a route into the right corner of the end zone and shook off a shove by Horace cornerback Dillon Otterson for the catch that proved to be the game-winning points for the Blue Jays (2-0).

Horace (1-1) then drove to the Jamestown 28 before Jacob Birnbaum missed a 38-yard field goal wide right as time expired.

The game remained scoreless until Horace running back Ty Geray ran in a four-yard touchdown with 1:22 remaining in the first half.  Birnbaum’s extra point attempt was blocked by Jamestown’s Caleb Schiele, but Horace led 6-0 at halftime.

With Horace deep in their own territory late in the third quarter, a snap went over the head of Geray, who was in the “Wildcat” formation.  Jamestown’s Max Rittenbach ran the ball in from 20 yards out.  Brady Harty kicked the extra point and Jamestown took a 7-6 lead.

In the fourth quarter, Horace scored at the end of a 39-yard drive of just over three and a half minutes on a two-yard keeper for a touchdown by quarterback Taylor Stefonowicz.  The Hawks appeared to make the two-point conversion on a run by Geray, but a holding penalty negated the score and on another try, Horace failed on the conversion.  Horace led 12-7 with 3:40 left before Jamestown’s winning drive.

Kallenback was 17-of-28 for 143 yards passing.  Schiele caught seven passes for 65 yards.

For Horace, Geray rushed for 86 yards and Stefonowicz was 12-of-15 for 143 yards passing.
