Ellen Gross, 77, Enderlin, ND passed away at CHI Lisbon Health on long-term swing
bed under the care of CHI Hospice.  The funeral service for Ellen will be 2:00 PM,
Friday, August 30 at Faith Assembly of God in Lisbon.  Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and an hour prior to the service on Friday.  The funeral service will be live streamed, then archived, on a link provided along with her obituary on her tribute page at lerudmathias.com  An online guestbook is available there as well.  Faith Assembly of God was Ellen’s church home, and her wishes were to have her service there, but the sanctuary is only so big…so you are encouraged to watch the live stream and join the family at the VFW in Enderlin following the service to share your stories and memories.

Ellen Ione Maruska was born December 17, 1946 in Fargo, ND to Martin and Irene
(Mickel) Maruska. She grew up in Alice, ND where she attended grade school. Ellen
graduated from Buffalo (ND) High School with the class of 1965. She married David R. Hurley and together they had a daughter, Laura. They made their home in various places as David was in the military. Eventually, Ellen and Laura returned to North Dakota. Ellen worked at Morries Diner in Enderlin, ND for a number of years.

In October of 1974, Ellen married Denis Gross and together they had a son, Danny and daughter, Amanda. Ellen worked for ND Grain Inspection located at the Enderlin Sunflower Plant before becoming a CNA and working at Maryhill Manor and CHI Swingbed. She retired about 5 years ago due to her health. She passed away in the place she’d spent so many overnight shifts working throughout her career.

Ellen was a gifted artist and writer. She devoted her life to her faith and her family. She not only had “blood” relations but considered many friends to be her family as well.

She is survived by her husband, Denis; children, Laura (Lynn Flatum) Buhr, Danny (Jodi) Gross, and Amanda Gross-Kaczmaraski; grandchildren, Randy (Jenny) Buhr, Stephanie (Zach) Calhain, and Gunnar Flatum and Tanner Gross, Trissa Gross and Twyla Gross; great grandchildren, Max, Marcie, Howie, Magnolia, Harvey and Hazel Buhr and Kolton Radenmacher, Nikole, Riley and Allen Calhain; and her brother, Eugene “Chief” (Kathy) Maruska. She also leaves her sisters, Lollie Adair, Dara Anderson, Edel Johnson, Jan Rosgen, Lee Collinridge, Lyn Cavett, Cheryl Haney, Georgette Pickle, Rachel Wawers, and Diane Johnson along with Karl Stordalon and Darren and Taylor Benneweis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant brothers, Craig and Mark; and her mother and father-in-law, Clarence and Alma Gross.
