JAMESTOWN – University of Jamestown Men’s Soccer opened its 2024 season with a draw and win at Rollie Greeno Field at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium.

Jake Simson scored twice in six minutes late in the first half Friday to start the Jimmies to a 4-0 win over Providence (MT).  Simson scored again on Saturday to give UJ a 1-1 draw with Dakota Wesleyan.

Friday – Jamestown 4, Providence (MT) 0
Simson scored his first in the 35th minute, spinning and beating two defenders after being set up by Oscar Salgado. In the 41st minute, Alexi George set up Simson’s second score and UJ led 2-0 at halftime.
A foul in the box in the 66th minute gave the Jimmies (1-0-1) a penalty kick and Salgado converted it for a 3-0 lead.
Alejandro Tocino Vidal, assisted by Charlie Archer, scored the match’s final goal in the 74th minute.
UJ led in shots 11-5 and 5-2 in shots on goal. Charlie Clark needed to make only two saves in goal for the shutout.
This marked the first season-opening win for Jamestown since 2016.

Saturday – Jamestown 1, Dakota Wesleyan 1
UJ (1-0-1) improved to 11-0-3 in its last 14 matches against DWU, but fell behind early, surrendering a penalty kick only 88 seconds into the match. Colton Douglas beat Clark for a 1-0 Tiger lead.
Simson, set up by Salgado, evened the match in the 40th minute.
The Jimmies led in shots on goal 11-7, but DWU had a 5-3 edge on shots on goal. However, UJ didn’t give up a shot in the match’s last 20 minutes. Clark made three saves.

After a Friday scrimmage at Northwestern (IA), the Jimmies will play Dordt in Sioux Center, Iowa, on Saturday.
