VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCPD) – On August 20, 2024 a resident of Valley City reported to the Valley City Police Department that they were a victim of a possible scam. The resident called a phone number due to a pop-up on their personal computer.
While on the phone the resident thought they were getting help, and were convinced through high pressure tactics to send $34,000.00 to an address in California. Members of the Valley City Police Department discovered the package had not been delivered, and was able to get a message out in time to stop the delivery.

Lt. Dana Rustebakke said as a result of the actions by the police department, the resident received their money back. This is a rare occurrence when we are able to intercept the money before it is delivered. The Valley City Police Department wants to remind everybody to never send money, gift cards, or wire money due to a text message, email, or a phone call to someone you do not personally know or have done business with. There are many types of scams out there today. Scam artists have become very creative with their tactics to take your hard-earned money. If you ever receive a message, a phone call, or text message and are not sure if it is a scam, please do not hesitate to call the Valley City Police Department.
