JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) –  Jamestown City Councilman Bob Toso has officially resigned from his position, effective immediately.

Toso, who began serving in June for a four-year term that would have ended in 2028, cited personal reasons for his decision to step down. In his resignation letter, Toso shared that the role was not a good fit for him and expressed his belief that someone else could better serve the city in his place.

Toso thanked the council members and staff for their support during his brief time on the council. He expressed his hope that a qualified candidate would soon fill the vacant seat, adding that Jamestown is “a great city.”

According to North Dakota Century Code 40-04.1-03, if a councilman’s position becomes vacant due to death, resignation, or any other reason, the city has two options. They may hold a special election to fill the position for the remainder of the term. Alternatively, after 15 days, the city may appoint a person from the same ward or city at large to fill the vacancy until the next city election, when the remainder of the term will be decided in June 2026. The full term ends in June 2028.
