JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NDHP) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) and Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint in Stutsman County on Friday, August 23 at a predetermined location in Stutsman County. Following the checkpoint, saturation patrols will occur throughout the weekend. These enforcement operations aim to increase public safety by targeting impaired drivers and reducing the number of alcohol-related crashes on our roads and to protect motorists, passengers, bicyclists, motorcyclists, pedestrians, and work crews.

Southeast Regional Sgt. Jonathan Skalicky, emphasized the importance of these enforcements, “Impaired driving is a significant risk to public safety and can have devastating consequences. Our goal with this enforcement operation is to deter individuals from driving under the influence and to ensure that our roads are safe for everyone. We urge drivers to make
responsible choices and to use designated drivers or ride share services if they plan to consume alcohol or use drugs that cause impairment.”

Through August 8 of this year, there have been forty-nine fatalities in 45 crashes on North Dakota roadways; nearly 15% of the crashes involved alcohol.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol reminds all motorists, motorcycle drivers, OHV drivers, and bicyclists to share the road; ensure all occupants are wearing seat belts; drive distraction-free; and always make the responsible choice to drive sober. Results from this planned enforcement will be released the week following the event.
