Catherine Franklin, age 102, of Jamestown, ND, formerly of Valley City, ND, died
Tuesday, August 13th at Eventide Senior Living in Jamestown. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, August 17th at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 16th from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Friday evening at the church. Catherine Margaret Diemert, the daughter of Ralph and Ruth (Biggs) Diemert, was born
April 4, 1922 in Sanborn, ND. Catherine grew up in the Eckelson area where she attended Island Lake School for eight years before attending Eckelson High School where she graduated in 1940. Catherine met Lyle Franklin in 1937 and they were married on February 21, 1941. The couple lived Eckelson area and later moved to Dazey where they lived and farmed. In 1949, they purchased their farm south of Sanborn, ND where they lived and farmed until their retirement in October, 1978. They couple then moved to Valley City. In 2018, Catherine moved to Eventide Senior Living in Jamestown where she enjoyed visiting with friends and they many
activities. Catherine enjoyed sewing, crafts and fishing. She also enjoyed visiting with family and volunteering. She volunteered at the Nearly Nu Shop in Valley City until she was 90. She was a member of the Sanborn Auxiliary, Circle 4, and Christian Mothers while living in Sanborn. Catherine’s family would like to thank the Eventide east wing Staff for her special care and also to Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Catherine is survived by her daughter Louise Max, Jamestown, ND; her grandchildren and step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and her daughter-in- law, Julie Franklin.

Catherine was preceded in death by parents, Ralph and Ruth Diemert, her loving husband Lyle Sr., her son Lyle, Jr., a daughter Karen Sauer, son-in-law Melvin Max, granddaughter Joan Schultz, a great-great-grandson Jameson Von Bank, four sisters, Harriet Murgittroyd, Alice Morisette, June Harshman and Ruby Persons and one brother Richard Diemert.
