JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Parks and Recreation District (JPRD) has introduced a new initiative aimed at fostering community involvement in maintaining and enhancing the city’s parks and trails. The Adopt-A-Park/Trail Program invites residents, businesses, and organizations to take an active role in preserving Jamestown’s green spaces.

The program allows participants to adopt one of Jamestown’s 20 parks, trails, or facilities, committing to regular clean-up efforts, minor repairs, and safety monitoring. In return, adopters are recognized for their contributions, fostering a sense of pride and ownership in the community.

“Parks are the heart of our community, providing spaces for recreation, relaxation, and connection with nature,” said JPRD Executive Director Amy Walters. “We believe that by working together, we can ensure these vital resources are well-maintained and enjoyable for everyone.”

Already, three parks have been adopted: Meidinger Park by the High Plains Association of Realtors (HPAR), Nickeus Park by Gate City Bank, and the McElroy Park Flower Beds by Daydreams and Bar V Ranch. These groups have taken significant steps to beautify and maintain their respective parks, contributing to the overall well-being of the community.

Gate City Bank, one of the early adopters, expressed enthusiasm for the program. “At Gate City Bank, we are committed to investing in our communities and giving back through volunteerism,” said a spokesperson for the bank. “By maintaining our park’s cleanliness, we hope to encourage our community to enjoy the outdoor recreational opportunities that parks provide.”

Similarly, the HPAR Membership Involvement Committee shared their excitement about participating in the program. “This program gives our members and business partners an opportunity to work together to help beautify our parks and show our commitment to the community of Jamestown,” the committee stated. “We really enjoyed providing the landscaping project around the sign at Meidinger Park this Spring. It looks so beautiful!”

Jill Trygg, a volunteer at the McElroy Park Flower Beds, emphasized the importance of community involvement in maintaining these public spaces. “It’s important to me that Jamestown looks its best for both residents and visitors,” Trygg said. “Community parks are the heartbeat of our community—it’s where all the action takes place, especially this time of year.”

The JPRD encourages all residents to consider adopting a park or trail and playing an active role in enhancing Jamestown’s green spaces. For more information about the Adopt-A-Park program, click here, or contact Amy Walters at 701-252-3982.
