KENNEWICK, WA (NewsDakota.com) – Noah Gabel won the 2024 Men’s Class I World Horseshoe Championship last weekend on August 3rd held in Kennewick, Washington. Noah pitched last Thursday and Friday and was in 4th place going into Championship Saturday, where he knocked off the leader and went undefeated for the day with the Tournament ended up in a 4 way first place tie with Noah, using percentage points, leading the tie breaking playoffs. Tiebreaker matches, #4 playing #3 and the winner of that playing #2 and the winner of that playing Noah for the Title. In the championship game, Noah started off a little slow and his challenger came out of the gates hot going up 10 to 3 . But Noah buckled down and won with a 26 to 16 score!
This is Noah’s second World Championship. In 2010, he won his first World Championship (Cadet) at the age of 7 in his first World Tournament held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He has competed in 15 straight years. For the first 9 years, his late Grandpa Wilbur Gabel took him all across the country, from South Carolina to Utah and from New York to Washington and states in-between competing at the Worlds. Wilbur also won a World Championship (Elder Class) later in the same day that Noah won his first back in 2010.
Wilbur passed away in 2019 and sure has to be looking down and is so happy for Noah to not only keeping up the tradition but to come away with his second Championship. Noah is planning on defending his title next year in Salt Lake City, Utah.
