VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Sheyenne Valley Area Career and Technology Center board and office staff met Friday, August 2nd in front of the first excavator to arrive on site to begin excavation.  Groundbreaking is planned for Monday, August 5th. The bulk of the planned renovation and addition will take place during the 24-25 school year and into summer 2025 in the hopes of being fully completed and ready to use for the start of the 2025-26 school year.
Derrick Bopp, Director for the Sheyenne Valley Area Career and Technology Center said renovations include updates to current bathrooms and fixtures, a welding shop expansion, and repurposing of the current office area. Additions include two classrooms to the West, offices and ADA compliant restrooms to the South, and a large Construction shop and classroom also to the South.
He said primary funding for this renovation and addition was provided by the North Dakota Career and Technical Education Project Grant. The grant did require 1-1 matching funds or in-kind donations which was accomplished through a donation of the land and current building that had previously been rented from Valley City Public School.
The SVACTC wishes to give special thanks to VCPS and the city of Valley City for their work in processing the transfer and rezoning of the property. The SVACTC would also like to thank all its member schools (Valley City, Litchville-Marion, Maple Valley, and Barnes County North Schools) as well as the Valley City/Barnes County Economic Development committee for their time, effort and resources toward the planning, application and commitment to remain partners of the SVACTC for the foreseeable future.
