VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Music in the Park will feature Valley City’s own talented family band, “Oakland Grove.” They will perform at 7:15 p.m. at the City Park Bandshell offering music to suit young and old alike. Known for their broad range of rock and country styles, and to some extent for their dapper stage attire, Oakland Grove is a fun, family-friendly variety cover band, offering something for every generation. Their unique mix of Classic Rock, old and new Country, Blues, and Rock’n’Roll includes some of the best and most popular songs recorded over the past eight decades.
Percussionist John Oakland has been singing and playing drums with his parents since the age of seven. John is a graduate of St. Catherine elementary school in Valley City and will be in 8th grade at Valley City Public Schools in the Fall. When he is not playing drums, he enjoys robotics and model railroading.
Guitarist Dave Oakland began his musical career at the age of twelve in the Cando area, with high school bands the Squires and the Honest Truth. For decades, he tactfully ignored having the reputation of the best guitar player to come out of Grand Forks, ND, as he traveled the tri-state region with bands Lone Tree, Clockwork, Deliverance, and his longest-tenured band,
FIRE.
Keyboardist Maggie (Gassmann) Oakland, originally from rural Valley City, joined Dave in FIRE in 2004. The couple married in 2006 and welcomed their son John in 2011.
Bring your family and enjoy the evening with neighbors & friends! A freewill offering is taken for the continued support of the City Park Bandshell. In case of inclement weather, the program will relocate to the VCSU Vangstad Auditorium on the VCSU campus.
Music in the Park is sponsored by the Bridges Arts Council, NewsDakota.com, First Community Credit Union, Grotberg Electric, Moore Engineering, Cass County Electric, Dacotah Bank, the Myron Sommerfeld family, Valley City Tourism, Eagles Aerie 2192, Valley City Parks & Recreation and the North Dakota Council on the Arts.
