MINOT – After another thrilling win to remain alive, the Jamestown Eagles’ exciting postseason run ended Thursday as Minot eliminated Jamestown 11-6 at the AA Legion State Tournament at Starion Bank Field.
Jamestown had outlasted Williston 5-3 in eight innings in the earlier game.
Jamestown 5, Williston 3 (8)
With two rallies, the Eagles came from behind to stay in the state tournament. Jamestown (11-20) trailed 2-0 before scoring three runs in the top of the fifth. Preston Gall lined a two-run triple in the right field gap to score Tyson Jorissen and Jaxon Kolpin before Bennett Goehner’s sacrifice fly put the Eagles on top.
Williston scored in their fifth, but Adam Sortland set the Keybirds (19-28) down in order in the sixth and seventh.
Ethan Oettle singled with one out in Jamestown’s eighth, followed by a walk to Thomas Newman, one of nine that the Eagles drew. With two out, an error scored the go-ahead run with Newman then giving Jamestown a two-run lead with a steal of home.
Sortland (1-4) then retired Williston in order again in the bottom of the eighth to seal the Jamestown victory.
Minot 11, Jamestown 6
Carson Deaver paced an 11-hit attack for Minot (30-14) with two singles, a double, and three RBI. Kellan Burke drove in two.
Two Minot errors on one play scored the first two Jamestown runs in the first inning before the Vistas scored a run in the second and five more in the fifth inning.
Jamestown (11-21) came within a run with three in the fifth. Oettle and Newman hit RBI singles before Jorissen hit a sacrifice fly.
Three fourth inning runs and two more in the sixth for Minot helped the Vistas cruise. Jamestown’s last run of the season was provided by Goehner on an RBI ground ball in the seventh.
