FT. RANSOM, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The bodies of two kayakers have been recovered from the Sheyenne River at Fort Ransom, according to the Ransom County Sheriff’s Office.
First responders were called out shortly after 4 p.m. on Sunday following a report that the kayakers, who had launched north of Fort Ransom, failed to meet their family at Sportsman Landing. The family, concerned when the kayakers did not arrive at the designated meeting point, spotted two kayaks below the dam and promptly called 911.
Rescue teams recovered the body of one victim 5 to 6 miles downstream on Sunday. The second victim was located approximately half a mile from the dam on Monday.
The identities of the victims will be released on Friday.
Authorities have confirmed that the victims were not from the local area.
