Robert “Bob” Wayne Young at 74 years died Friday, July 26, 2024, at his home with his family by his side.  To anyone who knew him he was an amazing father, sibling, grandparent and friend.  The Memorial Service will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, July 31 at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City, North Dakota. The burial will be in the Oriska Cemetery, Oriska, North Dakota.

Robert “Bob” Wayne Young was born at Mercy Hospital in Valley City, on June 22, 1950, to Clarence and Dorothy (Trader) Young.  He attended elementary school in Getchell Township, high school in Valley City and college at Valley City State University.

He served in the United States Navy completing two tours in Vietnam with over three campaigns as an assault boat engineer.

Bob married Rita Jerstad on July 28, 1973, at Sheyenne Valley Lutheran Church in Finley, North Dakota.  They had three children Lindy, Mike and Amanda Sue.

Bob was an amazing artist who could work in any medium.  His art revolved around the beauties of life and the inspiration that it gave him.  If he could see it with his eyes, he could draw it, paint it or sculpt it.

In his writing, the joy he had in things that interested him was found in his columns in Dakota Country Magazine and in “You Should Have Been There” in the Valley City Times Record.

Bob loved hunting, fishing and shooting.  He had a particular fondness for muzzle loaders and would attend various events to showcase his skills and spend time with friends.

It is no surprise that Bob was a jack-of-all-trades.  He taught art and welding at Glasgow Montana, and he was a welder for many years at Enterprise Manufacturing in Valley City.  Bob added a touch of variety by flying for the government shooting blackbirds and even did some paleontology.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bob is survived by his wife, Rita; brother Roger (Helene) Young; sisters Sheree (Chuck) Bowen and Carolyn (Buck) Reisinger; his children Lindy Vital, Langdon, North Dakota, Michael Young, West Yellowstone, Montana, Amanda (Jeff) Fry, Dickinson, North Dakota and his grandchildren Garcia Vital, Donovan, Natalia, Sophia and Jon.

During the end of Bob’s life journey, he kept reassuring his family that God was his co-pilot who was taking him home.  Now he is home.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel. An online guestbook is available at www.olivernathanchapel.com.
