BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Aeronautics Commission (NDAC) has reported robust air travel demand in the state, with a notable increase in airline passenger traffic at the state’s eight commercial service airports.

In the first half of 2024, North Dakota’s airports recorded a total of 593,550 passenger boardings. This marks an 8% increase, or 43,588 more passengers, compared to the same period in 2023.

June 2024 was the busiest month on record for North Dakota airports, with 102,030 passenger boardings, surpassing the previous record of 100,067 set in June 2014. This represents a 12% increase from June 2023, with 11,022 more boardings.

“The record-breaking passenger numbers that we have been experiencing over the recent summer months is excellent news for the economic vitality of our state,” said Kyle Wanner, Executive Director of the NDAC. “Our airports are thriving and they continue to work hard to offer excellent service and connectivity for our residents and visitors.”

The Jamestown Regional Airport experienced a pre-planned runway closure from May 7 to June 13 for major pavement rehabilitation. No commercial service flights occurred during this period, impacting June’s boarding numbers. Air service at Jamestown resumed on June 14.

Fargo Hector International Airport set a new monthly passenger record with 45,301 boardings, surpassing the previous record of 40,174 in June 2023.

Devils Lake Airport also achieved a new monthly record with 887 boardings, up from 792 in June 2023.
