STEELE- A go-ahead grand slam by Hudson Schmitz in the top of the seventh inning gave Carrington their first lead of the game, and Kyle Johnson added a two-run shot as Post 25 earned a 10-5 road win over Kidder County on Tuesday.
The Wolves immediately grabbed the lead with three in the first and one in the second to go up 4-0. But after Carrington (14-3) got a run in the third, Max Whitman crushed his first homer of the summer in the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-2. After Kidder County got a run in the home half to go up 5-2, Grady Shipman smashed his team-leading seventh homer in the fifth, a two-run shot to right to make it 5-4.
It stayed that way until the seventh. Josh Bickett singled and Jack Erickson walked. Shipman followed with a bunt single and Schmitz blasted his grand slam to left-center field for an 8-5 lead. After Owen Hagel singled, Johnson added insurance with a long homer to center for a 10-5 lead. Shipman picked up the win in relief with 3 2/3 innings of shutout ball on two hits with eight strikeouts.
Carrington concludes regular season play at home on Thursday against Linton-Ashley-Wishek with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 4:45 PM.
