The Valley City Post 60 Royals and the Fargo Post 2 Bombers locked themselves into a pitchers duel at Jack Williams Stadium, with runs at an absolute premium.

The game started with Valley City taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Corbyn Powell singled to drive in Ethan Miller. A stellar defensive play would prevent Valley City from adding to their lead, as that would be the last run scored in the game.

Miller started by sitting down the first nine hitters he faced. The fourth inning would see the first trouble of the game for Miller as a one-out walk and a failed attempt to cut down the lead runner at second would see the bombers have runners at second and third with one out with the middle of the order due up. Miller, however, would keep his nerves, inducing a couple of soft fly balls to escape the jam.

On the other side of the diamond, Bombers starter Caden Nelson cruised after his rocky first frame, only allowing two Royals baserunners the rest of the game. Miller, though, would continue to stand baserunners as the game entered the bottom of the seventh, still at 1-0 in favor of Valley City.

A leadoff double by the bombers would put the tying run in scoring position and bring the winning run to the plate. The Bombers elected not to bunt the man to third base with one out, allowing Miller to record a big strikeout for the first out of the inning. A pair of pop out’s later would seal the deal as Miller polished off his first shutout of the season, securing the 1-0 win for Valley City.

Valley City’s next game is tomorrow at noon against Kindred. The game can be heard on 1490 AM/ 96.3 FM KOVC.
