Janette “Jeanie” Hoss, 82, Pierre, SD, formerly of Valley City, ND passed away July 13, 2024. Visitation will be at St. Catherine Catholic Church, Valley City, on Thursday, July 18 from 5:00 PM until 7:30 PM, a prayer service will begin at 7:30. The funeral Mass will be Friday at 10:30 AM in the church. She will be laid to rest in Holy Cross North Catholic Cemetery in Fargo, ND. Janette Marie was born in Grafton, ND on September 26, 1941 to Milton and Nettie (Duray) Fering. Jeanie grew up and attended school in Crookston, MN. She graduated from Cathedral High School and went on to Interstate Business College in Fargo, ND. On August 18, 1962, she married Steven Michael Hoss in Fargo, ND. They soon moved to Valley City, ND where together they owned and operated Sheyenne Printing and Office Supply for over 40 years.
One of the things Jeanie loved to do was baking and trying out new recipes. She and her friend Nancy Leno co-authored a cookbook in 1990 titled “Look What’s Cookin’! with Nancy and Jeanie. Jeanie wrote her own cookbook in 1991 called “Dakota Delicacies”.
Steve passed away in 2013. Jeanie moved into The Legacy Place before moving to Edgewood Pierre to be closer to family.
Jeanie was an active lady, involved in her church, the ND Winter Show Ladies Division, and AA. She also belonged to PEO ND Chapter A
She is survived by her sons, Mark (Sophie) and Mike (Michele); grandchildren, Georgianna (Lukas) Steinbrueck, Collin Hoss, Megan (Zach) Nordick and Austin Hoss; and great grandchildren, Paul & Keana Steinbrueck. She also leaves two brothers, Clyde (Valorie) Fering and Rodney Fering and numerous nieces and nephews. Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Steve; sister Donna Mae Toutges.
