Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-Kael Kovar pitched 7 innings allowing 1 earned run, scattered 5 hits, and struck out 7 Black Sox batters as Post 25 defeated New Rockford-Sheyenne (Post 30) 5-1 in District 4 American Legion baseball. Kovar would also go 2-3 at the plate, scored once, and added a stolen base.
Grady Shipman drilled his sixth homerun of the year to open the scoring for Post 25 with a solo shot in the bottom of the first inning. Shipman finished the game 2-3, RBI, and a double. Josh Bickett belted out his first career homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning driving in Kovar with his 2 run blast. Bickett’s homerun added to the 3-0 lead giving Post 25 a 5-0 lead.
Connor Knatterud smacked a solo homerun in the top of the seventh to finish the scoring. The Black Sox left 8 runners stranded on the base paths including the bases loaded in the fourth and sixth innings. Lucas Yri was 2-2 batting with a walk. Easton Simon took the loss on the mound pitching 6 innings allowing 5 runs (4 earned). Simon did not walk or hit any batters. Carrington improved to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in District 4 play and the Black Sox dropped to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in district play.
