Alvina Heidinger, age 100, of Jamestown, ND formerly of Edgeley, ND passed away from natural causes, on July 2, 2024 at SMP Health – Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.

Alvina Lentina Presler Heidinger was born October 13, 1923 to John and Othilda (Domdie) Presler of rural Gackle, ND. She was their 8th child, with 10 more children to follow! She was baptized and confirmed in the Congregational Church in Gackle. She attended the rural school adjoined to the Presler farm for 8 years. In her teen years, she was the “hired girl” for several relatives and family friends.

She married Richard Heidinger on January 25, 1942 at Selby, SD. They farmed for 6 yrs. at Kulm, ND and lived in a sod house 2 miles SW of town. In 1948 they purchased a farm south of Verona, ND. They farmed until 1963, when they moved to Edgeley, ND and purchased the John Deere Implement Company. Alvina worked at the local cafe, and in 1968 she began as the bookkeeper at the Farmers Union Grain Elevator (retiring from there in 1987). Her husband Richard passed away in 1979.

They were blessed with 6 sons: Roger (Nancy Bornhoeft), Gary (Judith Leppert), Glenn (Gloria Charvat), James (Diana Hafner), Bruce (Linda Mentz), and Corwyn (Lynn Baker).

Alvina enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends. She especially enjoyed her European tour, an Alaskan cruise, several tours in the USA and trips to Oregon and Washington on many occasions. Alvina was very involved in her church LWML. She also did  crafts, crocheting, sewing and quilting. She made about 93 quilts for her family and Lutheran World Relief. She also loved getting together with friends to play cards, attend concerts and theater, and eat out. She met a special friend, Irvin Mogck, whom she enjoyed several years of companionship with.

She is survived by sons, Roger of Dilworth, MN, Glenn of Bismarck, ND, James of Topeka, KS, Bruce of Rapid City, SD, and Corwyn of Jamestown, ND, and daughter-in-law, Judith Heidinger of Hillsboro, OR. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 13 great, great grandchildren.  Also surviving is brother, Walter Presler of Jamestown, ND, and sister, Trudy Kassman of Nyssa, OR, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; son, Gary, five daughters-in-law, Lynn, Diana, Nancy, Gloria and Linda; eleven sisters; and four brothers.

Funeral Service – 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church, Edgeley.

Visitation – 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday, July 8, 2024 at the Williams Funeral Chapel, Edgeley.

Interment – Mt. Hope Cemetery, Edgeley.
